The soldiers came from nowhere, a group of at least 10 men. Elwyr was slept peacefully in his cave as they came and blocked the cave's entrance. They threw burning torches at him and tried to lance him. Now, Elwyr ran through the forest, chased be the soldiers, his wings were sliced so he couldn't fly away. But even on land, the dragon was much faster. After only a few minutes of running through the dark forest, Elwyr couldn't even hear the soldiers any more. They lost him. Exhausted from the fight, Elwyr lay down and licked his deep wounds. His wings had been sliced, parts of his skin were burned and he got stab wounds all over his body. After a few minutes of resting, the dragon suddenly heard the soldier’s voices again. They were still searching for him. Elwyr knew he couldn't stay. He stood up and wanted to run on as he suddenly stepped in a small puddle. He could see his reflection in the water. Elwyr didn't recognize himself any more. His once blue scales were now dabbed with his own blood and his face was sliced. Elwyr growled, the humans nearly killed him, but there was no time to wallow in self-pity. He just got a single word that was burned in his mind like the torches that burned his scales. Revenge.

"Michael come in, lunch is ready" The boy sighed. "Just one second" He stepped towards his father who was still working on their field. "Hey dad, mum called us for lunch" His father looked up, they had just finished to till the field. "Great, can you put the horses in the stable for me, please?" Michael nodded and guided the two horse towards the stable. He looked back to their small farmhouse, his dad had just entered and the smell of food even masked the smell of the horses. It was just a small farm. Michael lived there with his parents and his grandfather. The boy was only a few meters away from the stable as the two horses were getting uneasy. They tugged at the ropes until Michael couldn't hold them any more. Something must have scared them. Michael swore, what should he tell his parents? Disbelieving he watched the two horses disappear in the distance, but what did he do wrong. He sat down into the grass and swore at being so clumsy. A sudden a massive roar broke the silence. Michael stood up and looked around, but there was nobody around. He was shaking of fear, the scream wasn't from any animal he new of. Suddenly a large fireball hit the farmhouse and the old wooden building started burning right off. Michael stared at his burning house, disbelieving, afraid. His family was still inside screaming in pain. Michael looked up to the sky and his eyes widened as he saw what attacked them. It was a huge dragon with blue scales and black fur on his back. Michael watched in in terror as the dragon in flew circles around the house. The boy was still standing in the field. He couldn't believe what was happening right now. The blue dragon spat another ball of fire at his family's house. The beast seemed to be in rage. Whatever caused his rage, it must have been something horrible. Suddenly, the whole building just collapsed and the only thing left back was a heap of burned wood. The screams of his family died down. The dragon landed in front of the destroyed house, watching his "achievement". Michael started crying, there was no way his family could have survived. The boy screamed and cried, he had just lost his whole family in a few seconds. He didn't even care about the dragon that heard his screams and had turned around and watched him. The boy wasn't afraid and screamed at the dragon: "Is this what you wanted, are you happy now...you just murder my family we did nothing to you" The dragon looked conflicted, "...What's the matter, just kill me now...come on kill me!" The dragon didn't move. Michael just collapsed, on to the ground, crying, helpless. His face was tear-stained and bespattered with mud. After some minutes, Michael looked around, but the dragon was gone.

Elwyr lay on top of a small drop-off in the forest. The face of the boy was stuck in his had. What had he done? He had just killed a whole family without recognizing it. The feeling of remorse and sympathy with the boy let his heart broke apart. But it was far too late to repent. The boy's family was gone forever and he probably didn’t have any other family. Elwyr looked into the sky, it was already getting dark and the air was getting cold. the boy would probably freeze in the night if he didn't get any help. The dragon stood up and whispered to himself: "I'm responsible for this " He looked down at all the slices and scratches on his body that were caused by the soldiers. , . "...I killed innocents...I'm a monster...I can never make it good any more, but I have to try" With these last words, the dragon unfolded his wings and took of to the sky, searching for the boy whose life he had just destroyed.

Michael kept walking. He would probably freeze, if he was standing still, but why continue walking without a destination. The boy paused, he had walked for hours through the dark forest, trying to find a place to sleep and something to eat. What he actually found was nothing, just nothing and at the coming of the night, the temperature was decreasing. Even the much too large coat of his father couldn't protect him from the cold any more. Michael looked at the coat. His father gave it to him while they were working on the field. His father. It was hard to imagine that he had talked to him a few hours ago. Now, Michael was homeless and his father was probably dead, just since a few hours. Tears rolled down his face, life didn't make sense to him any more. Why not staying here, waiting for the own death? At least it would come fast. The boy leaned against a tree, and then he sank to the ground. Suddenly, he heard a strange sound. It sounded like a growl. A tree branch cracked behind him. Within seconds, Michael was back on his feet and turned around. What he saw made him freeze. It was a huge, black bear and the beast stared at him like Michael was his prey. The boy slowly stepped backwards. The bear came closer. Running wouldn't make sense. The bear was much faster than him. Climbing a tree wasn't an option too. The bear would just climb up and kill him. Michael was in a bad fix and the bear was coming closer and closer.

It was getting dark. One more hour and he wouldn't have a chance to find the poor boy any more. Even though the dragon had excellent eyes, it would be impossible for him to find the human in the dark. The air was getting pretty cold, the poor thing wouldn't make it long when he didn't manage to find him. Elwyr smelled the air, nothing that smelled like human. The dragon started to descend, it would be easier to search while walking instead of flying. He landed on a small boulder and folded his wings. A sudden smell came to his nose. It was a very odd smell. Human smell mixed with bear smell. The dragon's eyes widened and Elwyr started running, following the strange smell. Hopefully, the bear didn't kill the boy so far. Hopefully. The smell was getting stronger and stronger and now, he could even hear the animal growling. The dragon ran even faster and suddenly he saw him. The boy lying at the ground, the bear towering over him, standing on his hind legs. The boy was scared and curled up on the ground, ready to be hit by one of the giant paws or getting ripped of by the big maw. The bear recognized the dragon's presence, but before he could react, Elwyr hit him with one of his front paws and the surprised bear flew though the air and hit a tree. He wasn't dead, after a few seconds, the animal got up again. Elwyr growled at him and the bear ran back into the forest. The dragon stopped his growling, making sure not to scare the human. He was still lying at the ground, curled up and shaking, whether of fear or cold. The young human covered his eyes with one arm. He still expected to die. Elwyr looked at him. He didn't look like one of the soldiers, the little human just looked like an innocent little child, even though he didn't seem to be a child any more. He was so small, Elwyr could have swallowed him in one piece. The dragon turned to the boy. "The bear is gone...you're safe now" The boy still covered his face. He seemed to be scared. "Who are you?" the human asked. Elwyr didn't know if the boy even wanted to know. He hesitated before answering: "Please don't be scared, I won't hurt you" The boy sat up and opened his again. His eyes widened immediately after seeing the dragon. He crawled backwards in fear from the dragon remembering what he did to his family "You remember me huh...?" the dragon continued. "How could you even forget me, the one who destroyed your life, the one who killed your family...the one who did so many things wrong in your life" The frightened boy kept crawling backwards and whimpered. "What do you want from me, have you come to finish the job?" Elwyr turned his head and looked directly into the human’s eyes. "None will hurt you any more and I won't let you freeze to death out here...I know that you will never forgive me, but I'm responsible for you right now" For one minute, it was completely silent. The human didn't seem to believe him. Elwyr could hear his heart beat really fast. The dragon demanded something impossible of the boy: To trust the murderer of his family. The human shook his head. "Please...just leave me alone, I'm going to die anyway" Elwyr sighed, as suddenly an idea popped up in his head. It was risky and the boy would be even more scared afterwards, but it seemed like the only way to save him, the boy surely wouldn't come with him willingly. It was the only way. "I can't let you die here, I'm responsible for you and I would rather die here with you than leaving you here"

The dragon didn't give the boy any time to react or reply. Elwyr put his paws carefully around the boy's half frozen body and lifted him up to his eye level. The human was frightened, but didn't even try to fight back. Elwyr could see the sorrow in the small humans eyes. "If it have to end now...P...please end it quick...don't make it hurt" Michael said in a scared tone, The words of the boy drilled through Elwyr's heart like arrows, made him forget everything that happened around him. The dragon just wanted to sit down and cry. He wanted to cry until his tears were depleted, but he couldn't. The only thing he could do was stare at the boy in his paws. Elwyr knew what he had to do. He slowly opened his maw and licked the boy's face. The human whimpered. To his surprise, the boy did taste pretty good. Elwyr licked over the boy's face again, it just tasted amazing. Slowly, Elwyr opened his maw further and revealed his sharp teeth, what made the little human wince and whimper in fear. Elwyr whispered to the boy: "Even though it seems impossible for you...trust me" The dragon lifted the boy further up until he was right above his gaping maw. The boy screamed and kicked wildly in the air, but Elwyr had no other choice. He dropped the boy. He didn't even have to swallow him. The poor human just fell into the maw and directly into the dragon's waiting throat. Elwyr felt the boy sliding down his gullet. A small bulge was traveling down his neck until it finally disappeared into his chest as the human slid into the dragon's stomach.

Michael was frightened. It was all tight and dark, but he could still breathe, but that just made it worse. He was about to get digested alive and he would feel ever second of it. But why did the dragon tell Michael to trust him if he was going to eat him anyway? He curled up and started crying. He cried for his mother, for his father, for his grandpa and for himself. Michael had never thought that his life would end in a dragon's stomach. It was dark and humid, he was soaked in saliva and the acids would probably burn his skin until he would die a slow and painful death. After a minute, Michael felt the dragon taking off again. The darkness and the humid air made very hard to stay awake. Even though he knew that when would never wake up again, it would be better than being digested wide awake. Michael laid his head onto the warm, soft flesh and closed his eyes. The gentle movements of the stomach and the continual beating of the dragon's heart slowly lulled him into sleep. Outside, Elwyr felt the boy settle down and fall asleep in his storage stomach. He now felt even worse for scaring the boy like that but it was the only way to help him.

The boy woke up as all of a sudden, the walls seemed to tighten and pressed against the humans body. "That's it,” the boy thought. "I'm finally getting digested alive" The stomach got even tighter and seemed to move push him upwards? Michael couldn't breathe any more, the place had become too tight to move or breathe. Suddenly, the boy was greeted by daylight and from one second to another he didn't feel the soft material of the dragon's insides any more, but cold and hard stone pressing against his skin. Secretly, he wished himself back into the dragon's belly. Michael tried to stand up, but fell back onto the hard ground. The paw of the dragon lifted him up again and put him on top of his belly. He lay back against the dragon's belly and opened his eyes. He seemed to be in a cave. Outside, a thunderstorm had arisen and flash and thunder turned the forest into a battlefield. Michael looked back at the dragon and directly into his face, but the dragon bowed his head in shame. Then, Michael started to speak again: "Why am I still alive?” Elwyr looked down on the boy with deep sadness in his eyes “Well let’s first starts with our names it is Elwyr" Michael was still nervous, but he knew that Elwyr had saved his life. "Mine is Michael" The dragon turned his head to the human again. "I know you will probably never forgive me again" Michael could see shame and sympathy in his eyes. Elwyr was right; we would never get his old life back. He remembered the moment when the dragon burned down his parent's house. He had been hate-filled and angry. Now, the dragon was calm and really friendly. But what made Elwyr do this then? He was stuttering when he asked him: "Why are you so kind to me now after you killed my family?" Elwyr looked down again. He really seemed to regret what he had done. "It wasn't the fault of your family and neither yours. I was attacked by a group of soldiers, they wanted to kill me when I had done nothing to them. I got away with some injuries, but at that moment I was so angry and all I wanted was revenge. So I..." The dragon paused. "…And after I saw you, I realized what I had done I felt so guilty…I’m so sorry for what I have done, but I know I can never fix it again…you can go when the storm is over. I don’t think you want to stay with me any longer” Michael cried a little, he had nowhere to go. He had no home, no family, nobody who could take care for him “I have no home and I don't know what to do or where to go” Elwyr was afraid to ask, but it was probably the last option left for the boy. "If you don’t know where you should go, I will do my best to take care for you…I mean…I know that you maybe don’t want to but…" Michael stood up and hugged the dragon's chest as best he could. "I know now it wasn't all your fault you didn’t know what you were doing, but can you make me a promise” The boy said while crying tears of relief. Elwyr replied: "Whatever it is, I will”
“Please swear that you won’t kill humans anymore and don’t eat me again, it was scary” Michael said looking up at the dragon.
“I will try my best and as for eating you I will have to think about that since you tasted very nice and it would be the best way to keep you safe from harm and from the cold...but we will discuss that in the morning, let’s go to sleep” Elwyr said as he laid his head on the ground keeping Michael close to is chest. “Good night Elwyr” Michael said laying his head on the dragon’s soft, warm, scaly chest. Elwyr looked one last time at Michael and smiled as he fell asleep. “Elwyr?” The dragon opened one eye again and looked at the boy. The boy looked back at him. “I forgive you”
