The feeling of hard and cold stone pressing against his skin: cold, uncomfortable. A warm breeze was blown into Veyt's face. It wasn't a breeze, it was a breath. It was hard to open the eyes, the daylight was bright as ever and his eyes hurt while slowly opening. Then again, Veyt felt the warm breath on his face. Suddenly the light faded as something bended over him. Veyt's eyes became adjusted to the light and he could see the thing that bended over him. It wasn't something, it was someone. A face, a smiling face. Veyt knew the face, even though he hadn't seen the face for a while, it was still in his mind. Once, he had a friend with a quite similar face, it was an old friend from the orphanage. Jacob was his name, Veyt smiled as he thought about him and the human face bending over him smiled as well. Veyt was still half asleep, it was impossible. The human couldn't be his friend. His friend Jacob died one year back. He remembered the moment. It was a normal sunny day, too beautiful for a child to die. Like every year at midsummer, the leaders of the orphanage chose one of the children from the orphanage to be sacrificed to the dragon. Veyt remembered the moment as they pulled the young boy towards the beast and Veyt had to watch in terror, as the dragon swallowed his friend whole and alive. The dragon, the dragon that ate him too, just one day ago. The dragon, Jacob. Suddenly, all his memories were back and he could remember everything again. The face began to speak: "Hello Veyt" he smiled, there was no doubt anymore. "Jacob..." Veyt jumped up and hugged his old friend: "...I thought you were dead" Veyt didn't recognize the big shadow towering over them. "Well" Jacob said, "I didn't survive at my own, I had a little help" Veyt felt the warm breath in his neck again and he turned around. "Human?" Kajeer said, also smiling. Veyt didn't even say something, he easily ran towards the big dragon and hugged his snout, tears of happiness running down his face. This was the best moment of his entire live.
Veyt couldn't stop stunning. Five hours passed and they still sat in the dragon's cave. Jacob had told him the whole story, about Kajeer saving him and about his new family. "You got a family?" Veyt asked. "Yeah, Kajeer is kind of friend with the nearby villagers because he once saved a few kids from a hungry bear...now they treat him like a god" Veyt was just stunning. They ate some soup, Jacob brought from his new home. It had been one of the most delicious things he had ever eaten. Veyt was also stunning about his clothes. He did look like a child of a good earning family. Veyt asked him about it. "Oh yeah, this is just what I wear at work...I'm actually working in a gold forge" That was just too much. Only one day before, Veyt had been a poor orphan with no perspective and now he got to know that his best friend lived in great conditions, but what would happen to Veyt in future? Jacob saw his worried face. "Don't worry, tomorrow we'll go to the village and I will introduce you to my family. At first, you can even life with me...I got enough room for two and I don't think my parents wouldn't mind" Jacob talked about his parents as it were his real ones and even though Veyt wanted to be psyched for Jacob, he could just feel envy.
After another hour passed, Jacob went back to the village and Veyt stayed with Kajeer in his cave. It was already getting dark, the last rays of the sun let the cave glow in a dark red. Kajeer was lying on the floor, Veyt lying next to him. He wrapped is tail around the boy to keep him warm. "Veyt, do you know what's wrong with the village you lived in?" It was a rhetorical question, it was obvious what was wrong, so Veyt didn't answer and Kajeer continued: "It wasn't like this all the time...I live here since many years, it was a nice village...once, but since this stupid king came to power, he just oppressed the people and everyone drowned in poverty...instead of him of course..." Veyt listened, he knew what Kajeer was talking about, but it was hard to believe that all the suffering was caused by a single person. "I just can't understand why humans can do such things to each other" Veyt didn't know the answer, nobody did. Humans could do really cruel things, he experienced that firsthand. But the king of the region, where his village was located, was worse than any other human he knew. Veyt decided to go outside for a while to think about the words of the dragon. "I think, I'm going for a walk...I have to think..." Kajeer was pretty surprised:"Now, It's already dark outside, are you sure?" Veyt stood up. "Don't worry about me...I'll just walk around a bit" He took his woolen coat and stepped outside, Kajeer looked after the boy until he disappeared in the darkness. The dragon had a really bad feeling about this.
It was a cold night, the sky was clear. Veyt stepped through the forest, he did that really often when he wanted to think and meditate, he just walked without even knowing where he was. He was deep in thought and he didn't even perceive that he wasn't in the forest anymore. Veyt stopped and looked around, he stood on a small hill on the edge of the forest. Down the hill he could see a village. In some of the houses, the light was still on. That had to be the village, where Jacob lived now and it would be Veyt's new home soon. A smile forms on his face. Yeah, his life would get better from now on. He turned around and went back into the forest. Hopefully, Kajeer wasn't too worried about him. Even thought it was cold, Veyt just loved to walk through the forest at night. The moonlight was shining through the leafage and the cold chills of the night made Veyt shiver. He tried to imagine Kajeer's warm scales he would sleep on tonight and...*Crack* Veyt shrugged and stopped moving. Just one minute ago, Veyt was listening to the sounds of the cicadas and the sound of the wind. Now he couldn't even hear the wind. It felt like the whole forest was holding his breath. Veyt felt his pulse quicken. He felt like a helpless prey, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, captured in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly, two bright green eyes appeared in the darkness. They were just huge and looked reptilian. "K..Kajeer...is..is that you?" Veyt whispered. No answer, just a deep growl. He began to panic, his whole body told him run away, but he was glued to the spot. The creature growled again, then Veyt's instinct overwhelmed and he started running, but just a second later he found himself pressed to the ground and all the air was pressed out of his lungs. He tried to struggle, but his body couldn't move. He couldn't even see the creature that caught him until he was lifted up by a huge paw and all of a sudden, he could see the giant predator. It was a huge black dragon with white horns on his head, the green eyes watching Veyt. The dragon looked like Kajeer, he was just a little bit smaller than him. "Hmmm, what do we have here...a lost little human that can't find home anymore..." Veyt was still too shocked to talk, the only thing he could do was whimpering. "...don't worry little one, all your worries will be all gone when I'm finished with you " Veyt started to cry, still unable to talk. "Shhh, it will just hurt for one second and then you will feel nothing anymore, I swear" It was just amazing how calm and relaxing the dragon's voice was, but that didn't make it better. There was also no serious reason to struggle. He was in the claws of a dragon and even if he managed to free himself, the dragon would just catch him again. "P..please...No" The dragon just grinned. "Say goodbye little one..." The dragon was suddenly interrupted by a deep and loud growl. Veyt knew this growl, he had heard it just one day ago as the guard punched him. The dragon immediately stopped and looked towards the direction, the sound came from. He seemed to be scared. The other dragon came closer until he stood just a few meters away from them. It was an even bigger dragon with black scales. Vest sighed, it was Kajeer. "B..brother...w..what are you...d..doing here" Brother? Veyt was confused. Kajeer didn't tell him about his brother. The black dragon snarled at the small one: "What did I tell you about chasing humans? You know exactly that I'm older and bigger and stronger than you and I swear I will kill you if you ever chase a human again" The smaller dragon dropped Veyt and looked at Kajeer: "I..I'm sorry, you can have him if you want..." Kajeer snarled again. "Be quiet...you know exactly that every human who comes into our territory belongs to me" Veyt slowly crawled backwards, but Kajeer recognized and pinned him to the ground with one of his paws: "Where you think you're going...the fact that my brother won't kill you doesn't mean that I won't too" Kajeer was serious, he just treated Veyt like they never met. "B..But Kajeer...it's..." The dragon interrupted him: "Be quiet stupid child, your mine now and I decide whether you talk or not, understand?" Veyt nodded, still shaking with fear. Why did he do this to him? He couldn't believe that the dragon who was worried about him going outside wanted to kill him now. Kajeer turned to the smaller dragon, who seemed to be also surprised about his brother’s reaction. "Remember Arckas, this is your fault...I wouldn't have to kill this human if you didn't attack him, but now he knows about our territory and he will tell the soldiers about us so..." he turned back to Veyt and whispered: "...I'll just make him...disappear" Veyt started crying, tears ran down his face. He couldn't believe he trusted that dragon. Kajeer recognized his tears and a smile appeared in his face. "Awww, you're crying...that's pretty cute but I don't have a choice...I'm sorry" No sympathy in his voice, he just seemed to be amused about the little human lying in front of him, cursed to wait for his own death. "I think I should now...finish it"
With these last words, the dragon opened his maw, grabbed the boy with his sharp teeth and threw him into the air. Veyt screamed as the direction changed and he fell down into the gaping maw of his former friend. He landed on the squishy tongue and the giant maw closed around him. Kajeer didn't waste any time and started to swallow Veyt. He titled his head back and made the boy slide in his gullet. The muscles of Kajeer's throat pulled him further down. Veyt knew where he was going, but he also knew that it wouldn't turn out well this time. The soft flesh massaged his whole body, while pulling him towards the dragon's stomach. The whole trip was just a few seconds long, but for Veyt it seemed like an endless trip. Finally, the boy was pushed through a small hole into Kajeer's stomach. He didn't have much space to move so he had to curl up a little bit. It was still as soft as the last time he was in Kajeer's belly. He rested his head on the soft flesh. The warmth made him sleepy. Maybe that wouldn't be a bad way to die...just fall asleep and never waking up again. He stroked the soft walls around him like he did the last time. He smiled and finally accepted his fate. Veyt listened to the voices of the two dragons talking to each other. "I hope you keep now your promise, never hunt humans again...go now, it's getting late" Veyt heard the dragon say something mumbled, then he heard the sound of wings flapping. The sound faded until it was completely quiet. "Ka..Kajeer ?" The dragon sighed. "I'm sorry...I shouldn't have let you go outside again, it was my fault" Veyt was still afraid. "Are going to...you know" Kajeer shrugged, the thought of killing his own friend mad him sick, but Veyt still seemed to think that. "No, of course I'm not going to kill you, I'm so sorry...my brother...he...I really didn't expect him to hunt humans, I hope it was his first time. But trust me, as long as I'm here, I'll make sure that he's behaving and as long as you're in there, you will always be save and...", "Kajeer, no more apologies anymore...you did so much for me: You saved me from the orphanage, you gave me a new home and now you saved my life...there's nothing to apologize for"
"Thank you little one, you...little one?" but Veyt was already sleeping.
Still awesome! This is actually quite similar to how my character, Jordan, a human, met Blazeheart, a dragon, except with Blaze and Jordan, it was one, modern times, two, Jordan was and is not an orphan, and three, he wasn't sacrificed. But all in all, good story!
have you time to make a 3third part this year then?
Good point always a bad guy as a guardian or relative
Ah yes... The d*** relative. Always an element in every story.
one thing I suck at grammar.
I have to submit the story at school cause my dad blocked deviant art at my house.
you did good on these two parts. it might be a little better in grammar than mine.
on my school mac laptop its not letting me submit it without a picture.
I made my story on Microsoft word.
darn I was looking forward to part 3
part 3 ?
A rather enjoyable read.
Will there be a third?
