Captain Turner was out of options. The ice storm was worse than the crew thought at first. Everyone stood, waiting and shivering, underneath the deck. The two men sent to discover the land hadn't come back. The Captain himself sat on a small wooden bench, a bottle of rum gripped in his hand. One of the remaining crew members frantically ran towards him.

"Sir! The door down below froze up! We can't get outside anymore!" The Captain, already rather drunk by this point, laughed.

"Hahaha, why do you want to do outside?” he asked drunkenly. “Let's just stay here and drink…" he drawled, taking another pull on the bottle. Suddenly, a strange sound cut through the air. Everybody looked around, scared, before realizing what the sound was: the sound of cracking wood. A second later, one of the masts broke through the ship's ceiling. A few men screamed. The ones who hadn't been hit by the falling mast were forced to listen to the horrible sound of cracking bones. Hot blood ran over the floor. Captain Turner stood up, only being hit by a few small planks. He shrugged when he saw the sailor who just spoke to him. The man’s eyes were widened and a big wooden stake jutted out from the center of his chest. The poor man coughed, and then his head sank down. Dead.

Captain Turner didn't even realize what just happened. He walked past a few crying sailors and dead bodies the floor beneath them dyed a deep red. Another cracking sound pierced the frigid air, causing the Captain to look up and see the other big mast falling over directly over him. He didn't even try to run away. He watched the mast speeding closer to crush him. He turned around one last time and looked over to the survivors who were now exposed to the cold wind. He then mumbled, "Phillip, where are you?" before the mast crashed down on top of him.

"Phillip."

The young man jerked up from his sleep and opened his eyes to… complete darkness. He tried rubbing his eyes and opening them again. Still more darkness. He then tried to sit up, resulting in his head hitting a soft, moist wall. He also couldn't stretch out his legs or arms. There he sat, curled up in this dark, damp, and cramped prison. He was still too dizzy to realize where he was. Suddenly, the walls tightened around him and he finally realized where he was. The man tried pushing the walls away but they kept tightening as the air was forced out of his lungs. Then, the direction changed and the muscles around him started to pull him upwards. Phillip (hopelessly) tried to struggle but the muscles were far too strong for him to resist. The darkness faded and daylight shined onto the sailor’s face as he hit the cold, hard floor. The young man was still wet and covered in saliva. Something wet and slimy stroked over his face. His eyes were greeted by sunlight when he tried opening his eyes. After a few more seconds (and another wet, slimy stroke over his face), he finally figured out what was rolling over him. His eyes widened when he looked at the creature and he whimpered when it licked over his face once again.

The creature looked like some gigantic lizard: it was snow-white and roughly 10 meters long (its long, spiky tail included). It also had huge claws that could have ripped him into 1000 pieces quite easily. Even though the whole body of the creature appeared to be designed for the kill, its face was the complete opposite. Its big, innocent-looking eyes peered down at him and the squishy tongue licked over his face again. Everything happening at that moment seemed so… surreal. A gigantic, dangerous creature that licked a human like a pet dog to its owner? It looked down at Phillip like this was all just some little funny game, but that only served to heighten Phillip’s sense of discomfort. Phillip just stared back into those big, blue eyes and waited. It was quiet enough to hear both his own and the beast's heartbeat. Then, something unexpected happen: the creature began speaking.

"You could at least say ‘thank you’ instead of staring at me."

The young man was confused and stuttered: "I... I'm sorry... I didn't know you... you can... I mean you..." The creature smiled and revealed its sharp teeth, what didn't really help Phillip relax.

"Relax human. At least I saved you from freezing out there... you and your friend can be happy that we found you. There are not just nice creatures in this region." It was a strange feeling to talk to a giant creature that could have very easily killed him. But after all, the creature, whatever it was, had saved his life. Phillip relied on the help and the strange lizard seemed to be the only thing he could trust.

He gathered all his courage and managed to answer, still stuttering, "Tha… Thank you... Seems like y--you saved my... my life." The lizard smiled and stepped back a little to let Phillip sit up.

"So human, what did you want to do here? Humans have no place here and you were the first human I've seen for years." The young man shuddered when he thought back and remembered the dream he had. He was sure it hadn't been a dream. Phillip hesitated for another few seconds, the he began telling his story.

"I was on a ship from my homeland to Nuuk, the biggest human town in this land... but our ship got stuck in the ice and I was sent to find other humans who could have helped us. But then, the ice storm broke in and we had lost our way... if you didn't find me..." He stopped, a tear running down his cheek. Phillip wiped it away. He didn't want to look like a coward. But, the creature already noticed it and gave him a sad look.

"Do you know what happened to the other humans on the ship?" it asked. The man shook his head.

"I don't know. But I had a dream... a really bad dream." The creature seemed to understand and nodded.

"I'm sorry, but it's not your fault... by the way, what's your name?"

Phillip looked up into those trustful eyes. "’Phillip’," the man answered, still scared by the big size of the lizard-like creature.

"My name's ‘Akir’," the creature replied. The lizard seemed to be a male. He took another step back and Phillip slowly stood up. As he looked around, he saw that he was in a really big cave. In front of it, the sun was shining and the sky was clear. No sign that only a few hours before, there had been a raging storm. Akir still stood there and curiously watched him. Phillip then looked around the cave. The walls were full of blue, tiny crystals. The young man touched one of the walls; it was surprisingly warm. The cave had to be located over an old volcano or hot spring. That was the explanation of how he didn't freeze.

Then, all of a sudden, he remembered something. He turned back to Akir. "Do you know what happened to the human that was with me?" Phillip asked. Akir seemed to think about that for a moment, then he answered.

"Of course. Don't worry about him... he's in safe hands. My brother took him and he will take care of him like I am taking care of you." The man sighed and sat down on a big, warm rock. Still, though, one question was still burning in his mind. He was afraid to ask. Maybe it would hurt Akir's feelings. The strange creature (whatever it was) had saved his life and brought him to a warm and safe place. But why? Was it all a trap and he was going to end up being real food later? This question was stuck in his mind and he couldn’t do anything to calm himself down. Even though he didn't show those feelings, he already started to panic inside. But what should he have done? Run away? That wasn't an option. He would just get lost and freeze. No, he had to rely on the creature's help.

After some minutes, Akir stood up and went to the cave's exit. "I'm going for a little hunt, and I'll be right back in a few hours. Don't worry about polar bears or something like that. They’re far too afraid of me to come to my cave." The lizard turned around and went straight towards the cave exit.

"Wait..." Phillip called. Akir turned around again and looked at the human. Phillip didn't know if this was a good idea but he had to ask. "I wanted to thank you again for saving me, but..." He took a deep breath. "...why did you even save me? I'm just a normal human; not one of your kind and I don't believe I'm something special."

Akir sighed and turned back to him. "You may not think you're special, but you're a good person... I felt it when I first saw you. You have a kind heart and you're friendly... and I'm not a monster. I can also feel sympathy."

Phillip looked at the ground. He was ashamed. The creature had saved him and he thought he just did it to kill him later. "I'm sorry...I was just afraid" he mumbled, still staring on the ground in shame. Suddenly, he felt Akir's tongue stroking over his face again. He laughed and Akir pressed him against his warm chest. "You don't have to be sorry... I would probably be afraid too. Don't worry. I'll take care of you," the lizard said. Then he carefully pushed Phillip away and went outside. The young man watched him disappear into the ice desert, then we went back and cleaned himself of the slime

It was getting cold in the night, even deep in the cave. Phillip’s whole body shivered. Suddenly, he recognized that he couldn't feel his fingers anymore. He put his hands onto the warm walls, but they were cold. Confused, Phillip pulled his hands away and stood up. Maybe it would help to walk a little bit to get warm again. Akir was still on his hunt even though the sun was already down. Walking helped, but after another hour passed, he was slowly getting tired. A big shadow came appeared in the cave and a white, lizard-like creature stepped in. It was Akir. His eyes widened as he saw the human sitting on the ground. He seemed to be aghast by the sight. Phillip tried to smile, but it turned out in a ghastly face. Akir ran towards him and pressed his forehead carefully with his big paw. "Human, you're cold as ice... we need to get you warm again. I don't want you to freeze in my own cave."

Phillip wanted to answer, but he shivered too much to speak. All he managed to say was: "It's okay... d--don't w--worry about me…" Akir looked at him, shocked.

"Are you crazy? Nothing is okay. Listen, if you want me to, I can swallow you again. My kind has a special stomach where we can store newborns to protect them from the cold. I can do the same thing with you and you would be warm and safe. What do you say?" Phillip didn't have any doubts. He knew he could trust Akir and also that he would be safe inside of him. He nodded and Akir smiled. "I promise it won't be that bad." Then, the lizard slowly opened his maw. The teeth were retracted, so he couldn't accidently hurt the human. Phillip closed his eyes. After he opened them, he couldn't see much anymore. It was suddenly getting warm and he lay on a squishy, moving surface. Akir slowly pushed him further inside until Phillip hit the throat’s entrance with his head.  The lizard purred and enjoyed his taste. The tongue licked him all over and his head slowly slid into Akir’s gullet. Meanwhile, Akir had sat down and let the human slowly slide deeper inside of him. Only his feet were now still outside. Akir carefully closed his jaws around them and leaned his head back to swallow him down. It only took him two swallows until the human was completely inside of his throat and on the way to Akir's hatchling-stomach. The lizard closed his eyes and felt the small bulge traveling all the way down until it disappeared into his ribcage. Inside, Phillip had to curl up a little to fit in the stomach. It was indeed warm and soft. The squishy flesh moved with the breathing and the heartbeat of his new friend.

"Akir...?" he asked.

"Yes, little one?"

Phillip stroked over the soft flesh and lay his head on it. "Thank you for all you have done...I hope we'll stay friends."

Akir patted his full belly and smiled. "We will little one...we will."

Epilogue:

Simon and Akir's brother arrived the next day. The two men were so happy to see each other whole and alive. They cried tears of happiness. The two creatures then brought them close to the next town: Nuuk. It wasn't easy to say goodbye, but they had to go back to their families and friends at home. Phillip and Simon were in agreement with something. They would come back.
Second part is finished. It's not as long as I wanted it to be, but however...
