Jake hesitated for a short moment before he took a deep breath and opened the door. He carefully took a look outside. It was already dark and a cold gust was blown into the boy’s face. His little brother Paul tugged on his sleeve and whimpered a little bit. “Jake, do you really think this is a good idea. What if they recognize that we’re gone? They will search us and sick those big, evil dogs on us” The little boy whispered nervously. Jake sighed and bent down to his little brother. “Look, if we stay here it won’t change anything. Or do you really want to stay here. Remember the leather belt” He whispered back and Paul nodded as he stroked with his hand over a big, ugly scar, where the leader of the orphanage hit him with his leather belt. The boys had waited for this one moment for such a long time. They pretended to sleep until the leaders went to bed as well and carefully sneaked out through the back entrance in the storage chamber. Staying was no option.

Jake took his little brother by his hand and closed the door carefully behind him to avoid making suspicious sounds. The crickets were singing this night and the full moon was watching them from high above and gave them enough light for their escape through the forest. Paul was whimpering even more as the two boys reached the edge of the forest and walked inside. They had both heard many kinds of horror stories about this forest. Apparently, there went people missing in this forest, especially kids who went into the forest on their own.

The stories were mostly about demons and other evil creatures that kidnapped lost children and killed them to drink their blood. That was at least what the children in the orphanage were told. Probably just to scare them prevent them from running off into the forest to escape from the orphanage. After all, the orphanage was located right in the middle of the forest, a few miles away from the next village. The older ones were often sent to the quarry or sold as slaves, so it was quite understandable that some children would try to run away and with the evil demons in their mind, some were just too afraid to flee. That was the plan of the leaders. Make them fear of everything to break their will and make them voluntary slaves. It was just cruel. Jake had lived long enough in the orphanage to know that. He also had many scars on his back from being punished with the leather bent. He didn’t even want to imagine what would happen if they found them again and brought them back to the orphanage. They would probably either being sold as slaves or sent to work in the quarry until they die of exhaustion. Both options weren’t really nice, so it would probably better to be killed by some evil demon in the forest.

The night was cold and the boys had neither sleeping bags, nor really warm clothes with them. They had nothing but some cheap and thing workers clothes that wouldn’t really keep them warm. Jake knew that the risk was high to freeze to death out here, but he could neither stay any longer in the orphanage, nor leaving Paul behind there. He was just 9 years old and a real pussy. He was crying a lot and that often made the leader angry and caused even more cuts and bruises on his still young body. Jake himself was 17, almost an adult and took care of his little brother in the orphanage and prevented him from getting into any kind of trouble. Now, he ran through a dark and cold forest with his brother hand in hand. The poor boy was breathing heavily behind him.

“Jake, I can’t take this any longer…please stop” He gasped, but kept running. Jake then stopped and looked around. “Okay, I guess we should be safe now…they didn’t recognize us leaving” The boy said, panting for air and leaned against a big tree.

Paul sat down next to him and leaned against his brother’s leg. “Do you really think we’re safe now?” He asked in a worried tone and looked up at Jake with fear in his eyes. Jake smiled down at him and stroked his hear affectionately. “I don’t think so…I mean after all we…” Jake stopped and his eyes widened in fear. In the distance, he heard dogs barking and male, angry voices shouting orders.  “Shit” He whispered and grabbed Paul’s hand again. “What is it?” The little boy asked nervously, but way too loud. “Shhhh…they will find us if you keep shouting like that…come on, run” His brother whispered to him and the two boys ran into the opposite direction. Paul then suddenly stumbled and fell down, what caused a lot of sound. “There…they’re over there” One of the men shouted. Jake began to panic and pulled his brother back to his feet. “Run Paul” He shouted and the two brothers ran as fast as they could, the men ran after them with their aggressive dogs. If they had let them chase the boys, they would have probably torn them apart in a second. This thought made Jake run even faster. Paul was almost crying behind him. They both knew that being caught wasn’t an option so they just kept running. Even though their muscles told them both to stop, they would never give up. “Down there” Jake ordered and he pulled his little brother down a steep embankment.

This time, it was Jake who stumbled and the two boys both rolled down the slope until they were stopped by several bushes. Jake had some bruises and Paul cut his arm on a briar, but that seemed to be all. Jake sighed as he got up, but the voices were now even louder than before and now he could see them, standing on top of the embankment, staring down at them. “Go, get them” The leader shouted. His two assistants then came running down the hill, their dogs pulling impatiently on their leashed, barking angrily. “Come on…get up” Jake shouted at his little brother and they continued their run through the forest, probably a run for their lives. The barks and voices got louder and louder behind him and he felt that Paul couldn’t run for much longer. Jake’s eyes welled up with tears as he knew that it was all over now.

All of a sudden, the dogs stopped and refused to chase them any longer. They sniffed the air and whined and yelped in fear. “What the hell is wrong with the dogs?” The leader shouted and looked at his assistants with an angry face. “I don’t know boss…they seem scared. I don’t think that means something good” One of them said and one could see the fear in the man’s eyes. The leader sighed. “Forget those boys. For my part I would just let them freeze out there or be food of whatever creature’s living out here. Now let’s get back, these dogs are driving me crazy” The man shouted and the group turned around and quickly made their way back to the orphanage.

Paul and Jake kept running, even though they saw their pursuer turning around and walking back to the orphanage. They couldn’t believe they just stopped chasing for them. Maybe it was a trap. “Jake, I can’t run anymore” Paul whined and Jake stopped and looked back. “I don’t know why but they’re not following us anymore…I think we made it” The boy said and sighed of relief and grinned. “We did it Paul…now our new life can start” He added and sat down. They were both quite exhausted, especially Paul who was a lot younger than Jake after all.

Unfortunately, the boys didn’t recognize that they were not alone anymore. Mint, a young, male dragon was watching them since a few minutes. He had white scales with black stripes and a black underbelly and black fur on his neck. The dragon licked his lips as he carefully stepped closer to avoid causing a panic. The two boys didn’t recognize anything and Paul leaned against his brother’s chest to stay warm. Mint grinned as he got closer and closer until he stood right behind the two boys. He had to suppress laughing out loud, because the boys didn’t seem to recognize anything, even though there was a 20 feet dragon standing right behind them. He then slowly bent his head down and blew his warm breath into the boys’ necks.

Jake whimpered as he suddenly felt a warm breeze in his neck. It was cold and in the middle of the night. The only warm air could come from…another living being. Jake pressed Paul tight against his chest. “Jake, what is it?” The poor boy asked nervously as he heard his older brother whimpering in fear, but Jake was too afraid to turn around and he felt his pulse fasten and just waited for the creature behind them to kill both, hopefully fast and painless. But it didn’t come to that. The creature, whatever it was, seemed to be really patient. Jake slowly turned his head and his eyes widened in fear as he recognized that his face was just inches away from a huge, white dragon snout. The owner of this snout looked right down at him with deep yellow eyes that looked like two little fires burning in the dragon’s head. Jake froze immediately and it didn’t take long until Paul freed himself from his brother’s tight grip. “Jake, what’s going on. You almost…” The young boy stopped and froze as he also recognized the dragon standing right behind them like it had always stood there.

“Well, what do we have here…two little boys who got lost in the woods? Don’t you two think it’s a little bit late to go for a walk in a dragon territory this time of the day? It’s also quite cold…you could easily freeze out here” The dragon said grinning and breathed another draft of warm air into the boys’ frightened faces. Jake hugged his little brother tight. “P..please…Mr. dragon…we didn’t want to disturb you…please don’t hurt us” Jake said. His voice was weak and sounded more like whispering. Paul was now crying into Jake’s chest. “Please Jake I don’t want to die” The little boy whined and hid his face in Jake’s chest. His brother was still staring up at the dragon and the dragon was staring down at him. “You two look cold…how about a little deal?” The dragon asked with a grin on his face and bent his neck down to the frightened humans. “Wh..what kind of deal?” Jake asked stuttering. His whole body was telling him to just stand up and run away, but he couldn’t do anything but sit there with his crying brother and stare up at the dragon. “Oh, the deal is simple. You give me something to eat and I will give you both a warm place to rest” The huge reptile answered. Jake gulped. “We don’t have anything to eat with us…I’m sorry” He said with fear in his eyes and waited for the dragon’s reaction. “Ohhh, you do have something to eat with you…you got yourself and your little brother here” The beast answered and looked over at Paul who still held on tightly on Jake’s arm and had his eyes closed and whimpered lightly.. “No…please Mr. Dragon…take me, but please don’t hurt my brother” Jake said and pressed his little brother tight against his chest. “What…you want that I eat you and let your brother go…all alone in the cold and dark forest? I don’t think that would do much good” Then, before Jake could react, the dragon grabbed his little brother and lifted him high up over his maw. Jake was screaming and crying and tried to grab on his brother’s leg, but it was too late. Paul didn’t do anything to fight back. He just kept his eyes closed and cried his eyes out. The dragon gave him a short lick before dropping him into his maw and swallowed the little boy down with one single gulp. Jake had to watch in shock as the small bulge that was his little brother, traveled down the dragon’s gullet until it disappeared in the dragon’s ribcage. “Nooo” Jake cried and collapsed at the floor and screamed and cried. His brother was the only human who had ever cared for him and now he was gone, swallowed down into a dragon’s stomach. That was simply too much to handle for him.

In the meanwhile, Mint felt the human enter his stomach and he bent down to the boy’s crying brother. “You’ll be next…time to keep your brother’s company in my belly and please stop crying…it’s all going to be fine” He said and nuzzled the boy’s chest to comfort him a little bit. “Just trust me..” He whispered, then quickly wrapped the human in his tongue and pulled him into his gaping maw and closed his jaws around him.
Jake didn’t even try to struggle. He knew that it was all over now. The boy saw the purple flesh moving around him and the dragon’s tongue licked him all over. Probably, to make him slide down better and get as much of his taste as possible. The only thing he could think positively about at this moment was that it was indeed quite warm in the dragon’s mouth and even though the tongue was wet and slimy, it still felt very, very soft and somehow comfortable. But he suppressed these thoughts. After all, this dragon had eaten his brother and would eat him as well and as on command, he felt the beast’s head title back and he slowly slid down towards the dragon’s gaping throat. Jake slid inside feet first and was soon pushed completely inside by the massive tongue of the dragon. His head soon disappeared and his whole body was now surrounded by the soft, but strong muscles of the throat that steadily pulled his body in and forced him down the dragon’s throat. The boy was crying quietly. Jake knew where this would end for him and his brother.  He wondered how long it would take for the dragon to digest them both. Paul was probably already dead either suffocated or corroded by the stomach acids. Jake hoped that he would at least pass out before the digestion process started on him. Just then, a hole opened beneath him and he dropped into the dragon’s stomach. “Ouch” Jake suddenly heard as he fell into the tight chamber. “Paul, is that you?” The boy asked confused to how his little brother could still be alive. “Jake! Yes, I’m fine…why aren’t we dead already?” His little brother asked and the two boys cuddled up against each other in the tight, but warm and soft stomach of the dragon. There also seemed to be breathable air inside. How was this possible?

Outside, Mint was rubbing his belly happily, his two little snacks safely stored away in his fore stomach. “Don’t worry my little friends…I’ll carry you to a safe place” He said to the boy’s in his belly and purred as he felt them moving around inside a little bit.

“What are we going to do now?” Paul asked. It was completely dark inside the dragon’s belly and the noises and movements made the two brothers nervous. “I don’t know, but we’re not dead after all. I don’t think we would still be alive if the dragon really wanted to kill us…or at least I hope so” Jake whispered back to his brother as he lay back and sunk into the warm flesh surrounding him. Paul yawned and Jake was also getting tired. Every once in a while, his eyes closed and he shrugged up a few seconds later. After another half hour, Jake couldn’t stay awake any longer. He just closed his eyes and fell asleep, cuddled into the soft and warm flesh of the stomach with his brother right next to him. After an hour, they were both peacefully sleeping in the dragon’s belly.

Jake woke up, being glared by the bright daylight. Wait a moment! Daylight? Jake sat up and looked around. He was lying right next to the dragon that ate them last night. Paul was lying next to him and still seemed to sleep, snoring loudly in his deep slumber. The boy’s were still covered in dragon saliva, but Jake didn’t care at all. They were both unharmed and alive. That was all what counted. The still seemed to sleep as well and had put his tail around the boys like a cover. Jake carefully pushed the tail away and stood up. His eyes widened as he saw that they were in a cave and around them, there were at least 5 other dragons sleeping. He froze as he saw what was standing right in front him. Not a dragon, it was a human, a boy in his age or maybe a little bit older. He was standing a few meters away from him and looked right into his face with a friendly smile on his face. He didn’t seem to be scared or stressed at all, and then he slowly approached Jake. The boy didn’t move and just stared at the other human. The stranger boy stopped just a few inches away from him and held out his hand. “My name is Keto…welcome in the dragon circle”
Well, after being pretty unactive lastly I finally forced myself again to sit down and write another story.
I had no ideas at the beginning but I had fun writing on this one and since there are not that many
exams in the next weeks, I'll probably also write on another story or two ;)

Hope you guys like it and please leave me a comment or fave if you like it. I love getting feedback. Enjoy.
